Interwar semis, and original detail that is worth the extra day
Most of Bebington is between the wars, on wide tree lined roads, and a good number of those houses still have their original internal joinery: panel doors, deep skirtings, picture rails and sometimes the original stair balustrade.
That is worth preparing properly rather than rolling over. Stripping back a panel door that has been painted eight times and bringing the mouldings back is a day's work per door and it is the difference between a room that looks decorated and one that looks painted. It is also optional, and it should be an itemised line you can say yes or no to rather than an assumption either way.
Port Sunlight, where the colour is a condition
Port Sunlight sits inside Bebington and it is a conservation area of listed buildings. External colours, finishes and in some cases materials are controlled, and that is not a matter of taste.
What consent any particular work needs is the council's answer and nobody else's, and it is worth getting in writing before a tin is opened. What we will do at the quote is tell you plainly when what you are describing sounds like something that needs asking about first. Repainting an external elevation there in a colour of your choosing is the clearest example.
North facing rooms and the colour that looks wrong indoors
These houses have deep plans and a lot of them have a north facing front room that never gets direct sun. A colour chosen from a chart under a shop light will read grey, cold or green in that room, and the first time you see it is when the wall is finished.
A large sample board, moved round the room and looked at morning and evening, costs nothing and settles it. We would rather do that than repaint a room because the colour was right on paper.
Exterior woodwork on a tree lined road
Mature trees mean shade, damp and leaf litter, and exterior timber under a canopy stays wet longer after rain than timber in the open. Fascias, bargeboards and window frames on the shaded side of these roads fail sooner than the sunny side of the same house.
So the two sides are not the same job and should not be priced as if they were.

Questions from Bebington
Can I paint my Port Sunlight house any colour I like?
That is the council's answer rather than ours, and it is worth getting in writing before anything is ordered. It is a conservation area of listed buildings and external colours and finishes are controlled. We will flag it at the quote rather than let you find out afterwards.
Is it worth stripping my old panel doors rather than painting over them?
In a room where the joinery is the character, usually yes, and it is a day a door rather than an hour. It should be an itemised line you can decline, not an assumption. Painting over is cheaper and perfectly reasonable if the surface is sound and you are not chasing the detail.
Why does my colour look different in the front room?
North facing light has no warmth in it, so a colour with any grey or green in its base reads cold there. A big sample board moved round the room and looked at twice a day settles it before the wall is painted rather than after.

Twelve towns across the peninsula. What decides a decorating job here is what the last coat was, how old it is and which way the wall faces, and that is genuinely different in Meols from how it is in Bebington.
