Painter and decorator in Meols

Coastal bungalows and detached houses, fully exposed, where the outside of the building is the whole conversation.

  • Preparation priced separately
  • Floors and furniture covered
  • We say when paint is not the fix

Exterior painting

Meols is low lying and fully exposed, and the sea air is the defining factor for anything coated on the outside of a building. Salt works into a paint film and lifts it, and it corrodes any ferrous fixing it reaches, so a nail head rusts and bleeds a stain down a freshly painted board within a season. Punching and priming every fixing is preparation here, not an optional extra.

Masonry and render painting

Render on the exposed side wants looking at more often than the same render three miles inland. Paint coming off in sheets means moisture behind it and a new coat will do the same thing.

uPVC spraying

On this coast a sprayed coating on a sound uPVC frame often outlasts paint on timber, and there is a lot of uPVC on these bungalows. Where the frames are sound it is a sensible alternative to repainting timber every few years.

Fence and garden painting

Exposed gardens, salt laden wind and fencing that weathers fast. Worth treating rather than just colouring.

Questions from Meols

Why does paint last so badly out here?

Two reasons at once. Salt works under the film and lifts it, and moisture in the wall or timber behind pushes it off from the inside. Repainting treats neither. What matters is whether the surface underneath is sound and dry before anything goes on.

Is there anything that lasts on a coastal elevation?

Nothing is permanent facing the Irish Sea, and that is the honest answer. What changes the interval most is preparation rather than product, and on uPVC a sprayed coating removes the repainting cycle on timber altogether, which is often the better question to ask.

Other areas covered

Twelve towns across the peninsula. What decides a decorating job here is what the last coat was, how old it is and which way the wall faces, and that is genuinely different in Meols from how it is in Bebington.

A photo of the worst wall is more useful than a description of all of them, and it is usually enough for a first answer.
