Tier 2 coverage, Merseyside

Painter and decorator in Caldy

Large detached houses behind walls and mature trees, mostly exterior timber and interiors done properly rather than quickly.

  • Preparation priced separately
  • Floors and furniture covered
  • We say when paint is not the fix

Exterior painting

Substantial houses on big wooded plots, which means shade, damp and leaf litter sitting on horizontal timber for months. Fascias, bargeboards and sills under a canopy stay wet far longer after rain than the same timber in the open, and they fail first. The shaded side and the open side of the same house are not the same job.

Woodwork and staircases

A lot of original joinery, and often a stair hall that is the main room of the house. Those are priced per element and per day rather than by area, because the preparation varies enormously between one door and the next.

Interior painting

Large, well lit rooms, which is unforgiving. Raking daylight across a long wall shows every roller mark and every patch of inconsistent coverage, so the finish standard has to be agreed rather than assumed.

Masonry and render painting

Where there is render it is usually on later additions rather than the original stone, and it is often shaded. Shaded render holds damp and grows algae, which has to be treated rather than covered.

Questions from Caldy

Why does the shaded side of my house need doing more often?

Because it stays wet longer. Timber and render under a tree canopy do not dry between one shower and the next, and a coating on a surface that is never properly dry has a much shorter life than the same coating in the open.

Do you work on houses set a long way back from the road?

Yes. What is worth settling at the quote is access: where a van can get to, where a tower or scaffold can stand, and how far materials have to be carried. On a long drive behind trees that is a real part of the day.

Other areas covered

Twelve towns across the peninsula. What decides a decorating job here is what the last coat was, how old it is and which way the wall faces, and that is genuinely different in Meols from how it is in Bebington.

A photo of the worst wall is more useful than a description of all of them, and it is usually enough for a first answer.
