Exterior painting on the Wirral
Whole exteriors, with the weather side treated as its own job, because on this peninsula it genuinely is one.
- Preparation priced separately
- Floors and furniture covered
- We say when paint is not the fix
Exterior painting
Four elevations, not one house
The biggest mistake in exterior painting on the Wirral is pricing a house as one surface. A south facing front and a north facing back are doing completely different things. The south side fades and chalks under UV. The north side never dries properly, grows algae and holds damp. The seaward side, wherever it points, takes salt and wind driven rain.
So the survey is elevation by elevation. Is the existing coating sound, chalky or coming off in sheets. Is there growth, and is it alive. Are there ferrous fixings that will rust through a new coat. Is the timber sound or is there rot that is joinery rather than painting. Those answers are the quote.
Then the order of work, which matters more outside than in. Anything growing is killed and washed off. The surface is allowed to dry, properly rather than nominally. Loose material comes off, bare areas are primed, fixings are punched and spot primed, and only then does colour go on. Often asked about alongside masonry and render painting, wallpapering and woodwork and staircases.
Get a price for the exteriorSouth fades, north grows algae and holds damp, seaward takes salt. Three different jobs on one house, and they are priced as three.
Paint on a wall that is still wet behind fails faster than the coat it replaced. Drying time is part of the programme.
Sound, chalky, or letting go. Rubbing a hand across it answers it in seconds and decides the whole specification.
Done across Wallasey, Bebington, Bromborough, and everywhere else on the peninsula.

What this job looks like
The slots below are placeholders. The pictures elsewhere on this site are example images of the kind of work described, each one labelled as such, and they are not photographs of our own jobs. Nothing here is borrowed from anybody else's. Our own photographs go in as jobs are finished and customers are happy for us to use them.
Why people use us
The weather window, said honestly
Exterior coatings have a minimum application temperature and must not be rained on before they form a film.
- Every elevation assessed separately and priced separately
- Growth treated and washed before anything is coated
- Fixings punched and spot primed so they cannot bleed through
- Access shown as its own line rather than buried in a rate
Frequently asked questions
Exterior painting: the questions people ask
The ones that come up most. If yours is not here, ring and ask.
How long should an exterior repaint last?
It depends far more on which way the wall faces and how it was prepared than on what was in the tin. A sheltered elevation prepared properly will go a long time. A seaward one will not, whatever you spend, and anybody giving you one number for a whole house has not asked which way it faces.
My paint is flaking. Does it all have to come off?
Whatever is loose does, plus a feathered margin into sound material so the repair does not show as a ridge. How much that is only shows once it is scraped, which is why an honest quote prices the visible area and gives a rate for anything beyond it.
Can you paint in winter?
Some of it, in a weather window rather than on a date. Most exterior coatings have a minimum application temperature and need to form a film before rain reaches them, and on this coast that limits the days rather than the months. We would rather say so than start and lose a coat.
Do you do the gutters and fascias too?
Painting them, yes, and they are priced per element because a sound fascia and a rotten one are different jobs. Clearing or cleaning them is not our trade and we would point you at wirralexteriorcleaning.com rather than quote for it ourselves.
Done across Wallasey, Bebington, Bromborough, and everywhere else on the peninsula.
Send a photo of each elevation
Four photographs and a note of which side gets the weather is enough to start, and it is more useful than a description.
About Wirral Painting
How the work is actually organised
Wirral Painting takes the job as main contractor and puts the labour on it. One person quotes it, one person is answerable for it, and you are not chasing three numbers to find out who is turning up on Tuesday.
It is worth saying plainly rather than implying a van and a family name. What you get is a written scope with the preparation itemised, a date, and somebody whose problem it is if the date moves.
What we will tell you we are not
Damp treatment, plastering and joinery are other trades. All three turn up constantly in decorating enquiries, because a decorator is usually the first person to see the problem.
A damp patch that keeps returning, a wall that needs replastering rather than filling, a rotten cill under a window you want painted: we will tell you that is what you are looking at rather than put a coat over it and take the money.
No photographs of our work, and why the site says so
There are no job photographs on this site. The slots are placeholders and they are labelled as placeholders. Nothing here is a stock picture presented as a job and nothing is borrowed from another company.
Real photographs go in as jobs are finished and customers are happy for us to use them, and not before. The same goes for anything that looks like a customer quote. There is a section built and ready for them, switched off, and it stays that way until there are real ones with permission attached.

Tell us which rooms, or which elevations, and roughly what state they are in. A photograph on the form answers most of the preparation questions before anybody rings you back.
